Burlen Celebrates Pioneer Racing Driver Barbara Skinner

George Herbert Skinner (also known as Bert) and Thomas Carlyle Skinner (also known as Carl) created the Skinners Union (SU) brand. Experimenting with fuel mixtures in the early 1900s they made their first carburetor in 1904 and went on to form The SU Company in 1910. Carl Skinner had two children, Barbara (1911) and Peter (1914), both would become avid motorsport fans and drivers in their own right, but it was Barbara who had the talent to be naturally competitive at a time when women racing drivers had only recently been permitted to compete against men.

Jim Clark Motorsport Museum Secures 5-Star Status

As the Jim Clark Motorsport Museum in Duns, Scottish Borders, opens to the public for the new season, the partners who collaborated on the project celebrate 5-Star status awarded by VisitScotland. The museum opened to the public on 11 July 2019 following a £1.6million partnership project – the museum welcomed 13,000 visitors in its first six months as well as securing its first award, notably from the Royal Automobile Club Historic Awards. The new museum was visited and assessed by VisitScotland Quality Tourism Advisors and was awarded the prestigious 5-Star Museum grading – the first museum in the Scottish Borders to receive this accolade and one of only nine 5-Star visitor attractions in the region.

HRH Prince of Wales Visits Aston Martin Lagonda

Friday, Aston Martin Lagonda welcomed His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to its new manufacturing facility at St Athan in Wales. The visit was also enjoyed by a group of Aston Martin apprentices and school children from the local area who came along to see the new facility. Aston Martin Lagonda, St Athan now also bears a plaque, commemorating the Royal visit, which was presented to the team by His Royal Highness.

Ian Callum Leaving Jaguar, Julian Thomson Announced as Successor

Jaguar today announced that Ian Callum, Director of Design, is to leave his position at the company after two decades heading up Jaguar Design. Julian Thomson, currently Creative Design Director, has been appointed to the role of Director of Design, effective July 1, 2019. Since joining Jaguar in 1999, Ian has built a world-class creative design team, established a new design philosophy and revived the range with award-winning designs. These include F-TYPE – Jaguar’s first two-seater sports car since the iconic E-type – the XE, XF and XJ saloons, and the marque’s first SUVs – F-PACE, E-PACE and most recently the all-electric I-PACE, which in April was crowned 2019 World Car of the Year, World Car Design of the Year and World Green Car.
