Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, Visits McLaren

Prince William, HRH The Duke of Cambridge today visited McLaren Automotive, the pioneering British creator of luxury sports and supercars. He was given a tour of the McLaren Production Centre, in Woking, led by Mike Flewitt, McLaren Automotive Chief Executive Officer. Along the way, The Duke met some of the company’s 2,100 workforce who designed and hand-assembled a record 3, 286 cars last year, the majority exported around the world.

It is with a heavy heart that I must let you know of another passing in our ranks. Dick Knudson, MG evangelist and recent inductee into the British Sports Car Hall of Fame, has passed away last Friday, September 1st. Services will be held Friday, September 8th, in Schenevus, New York. The Reverend Dr. Richard L. Knudson was a co-founded the New England MG ‘T’ Register in 1964 and has been the register’s backbone ever since, guiding the register and its many events over the years. He was editor of the Register’s “Sacred Octagon” magazine for many years. He became an “MG Expert”, even traveling to England to do MG research. Passing of Syd Silverman, Vintage Racer

Very sad to hear of the passing of Syd Silverman. Syd was very involved in vintage racing in a number of respects for many years.  He was a strong supporter of the MG Vintage Racers and he raced his MGTC with us a number of times. In fact, his MGTC was the TC that was Carroll Shelby’s first race car.  He was the recipient of SVRA’s “Collier Cup” in 2003.  We will miss him. Syd Silverman was the owner and chairman of Vintage Motorsport from 1990-2012. He was a staunch supporter and participant in the preservation, presentation, and celebration of motorsports and its history for nearly four decades. Syd died of a sudden illness Sunday, Aug. 27 in Boca Raton, Florida. He was 85

Bentley Motors today announces the appointment of Peter Bosch as its new Member of the Board for Manufacturing, starting on 1st November 2017. Bosch joins Bentley from Volkswagen Group’s Wolfsburg headquarters where he held the role of Head of Production Strategy, Processes and Structure. He succeeds Michael Straughan who is leaving Bentley to pursue other career opportunities.

Roger Daltrey’s Tommy Car Rolls-Royce Proceeds to Charity

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and ‘Global dealer of the Year’ Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Sunningdale, have made a charitable donation to Teenage Cancer Trust. The donation was made from the proceeds of the sale of Roger Daltrey CBE’s unique ‘Tommy’ car, created earlier this year as part of a series of highly-Bespoke Wraith ‘Inspired by British Music’ cars. A check for £208,945 (approximately $270,000 USD) was handed over yesterday in London by Roger Daltrey CBE to Teenage Cancer Trust’s Chairman David Hoare. Daltrey is Honorary Patron of the charity, which supports young people aged 13-24 diagnosed with cancer, and the driving force behind Teenage Cancer Trust’s annual fundraising concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. He collaborated with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars designers to create two Bespoke cars to mark the musical legacy of The Who.

Invictus Games Toronto 2017 competitor and Jaguar Land Rover employee, Steven Boulton, was given a surprise send-off by colleagues at the car manufacturer’s Solihull site, as the National Flag Tour gets underway in Canada today. A bespoke car livery, featuring good luck messages from Jaguar Land Rover employees to Invictus competitors was on display during the celebration. The livery is also used on a fleet of new Discovery on the Invictus Games National Flag Tour, which marks the countdown to the Games starting on September 23.

Joerg Ross Appointed Aston Martin Powertrain Chief Engineer

Aston Martin has announced the appointment of Joerg Ross as Chief Engineer, Powertrain. Joerg will be responsible for the development of Aston Martin’s engines, transmissions, and electrification, reporting to Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, Max Szwaj and will be based at the company’s headquarters at Gaydon, Warwickshire. Born in Remscheid, Germany, Joerg Ross holds a degree and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the RWTH Aachen University, Germany. Outwoods Primary School year six pupil, Deya Kidder from Burton upon Trent, has been announced as the winner of MG dealership TL Darby’s ‘Up on the Roof’ competition. The contest, which received more than 80 entries from eight schools within the area, asked pupils to come up with a design that would be featured on the roof of the MG GS. Deya, who has just finished her final year at Outwoods Primary School, visited TL Darby to see her winning design in the flesh, adorning the roof of the car which now sits pride of place in the showroom.

John Lennon’s Phantom V Rolls-Royce to Return to London

Today, Rolls-Royce has announced that it will celebrate the 50th anniversary year of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in its own way by bringing the colorful Rolls-Royce Phantom V, famous for being owned by John Lennon, back home to London for the British public to see. Currently owned by the Royal British Columbia Museum in Canada, ‘The John Lennon Phantom V’ will travel from Canada to London to join ‘The Great Eight Phantoms’ – A Rolls-Royce Exhibition, at Bonhams on New Bond Street, an area visited regularly by Lennon in the late 1960s in this very car. Members of the public will be able to see ‘The John Lennon Phantom V’ at Bonhams from 29 July to the 2 August.

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Vic Edelbrock, Jr on June 9th, 2017. This note was recently posted on the Edelbrock company web page and Facebook page. It’s with deep sadness that we announce the untimely death of our visionary leader and industry icon Vic Edelbrock Jr. Vic passed away on the evening of Friday June 9, 2017 from natural causes. His passing was peaceful and in the company of his closest friends and family. The Edelbrock Fun Team sends their deepest condolences to his family and will always hold him in our hearts.

Recap – British Sports Car Hall of Fame

As you all know by now, the induction ceremonies for the British Sports Car Hall of Fame were held this past Friday, June 2nd, in Petersburg, Virginia. The event was held in coordination with the second Moss Motorfest and was a great success with a standing room only crowd of almost 600 people in attendance. Of the twenty-three human inductees (more on that in a moment), eight were in attendance. Those eight were Mike Cook, Michael Dale, Peter Egan, Robert Johns, Richard Knudson, Graham Robson, Bob Tullius and John Twist. During the awards ceremony itself, brief biographies were gone over, stories were told on themselves and others, and then the gorgeous Moto-Lita steering Heacock Insurance wheel awards were handed out. MG has issued the following in regards to the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) … Following the statements from both Triple Eight Racing and Daniel Lloyd yesterday, MG UK would like to acknowledge the contribution that Daniel has made since joining that MG RCiB Insurance racing team this year and wish him all the best in his future endeavors. It has been clear that, so far in 2017, the on-track results have not reached the level to which MG or any of our partners aspire and we support the efforts that the Triple Eight team is making to remedy this situation, starting this weekend as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to the Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire.

2nd Running of TR Drivers Club’s Bullet Run

This Friday sees the second running of the TR Drivers Club’s ‘Bullet Run’.  A weekend of leisurely organized driving through some of the most picturesque locations undertaken by Triumph test drivers and engineers when the cars were being developed.  This year will re-trace the route through the beautiful Peak District.  The whole event is based around the high-quality Jury’s Inn Hinckley Island Hotel near Nuneaton.

John Twist is the MG guru behind Michigan’s University Motors who has helped countless people maintain, restore, and understand their MGs. He has run a successful shop, has an informative video series, and now is an international speaker. Twist will be inducted into the British Sports Car Hall of Fame on Friday, June 2nd.

Rob Melville made McLaren Design Director

McLaren Automotive has announced the promotion of Rob Melville to Design Director with immediate effect. He reports to Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Jens Ludmann. Rob joined McLaren Automotive in 2009 as Senior Designer, rising to Chief Designer in 2014. During his time at McLaren, Rob has worked on the McLaren P1™, the evolution of the 12C into the 650S, the 675LT, and was responsible for the Sports Series which won the ‘Best of the Best’ category in the coveted Red Dot design awards in 2016. Most recently he led the design of the 720S, the first model in the second-generation Super Series.
