‘Racing improves the breed’ is an overused and often abused saying, but is totally apt when it comes to a number of products offered by British Motor Heritage (BMH). BMH’s managing director John Yea has now been successfully campaigning the company’s FIA specification MGB in a variety of high-profile historic race series for some nine years. His first-hand experience of ‘Britain’s favourite sportscar’ on the track has directly resulted in the following being made available from BMH:

  • 4.1:1 crown wheel and pinion
  • Close ratio gear set for ‘4-synchro’ transmissions
  • Alloy door and boot-lid skins
  • FIA specification alloy front valance
  • Seam-welded replacement bodyshells
  • Bespoke bodyshells featuring full-range of BMH alloy panels (these are sold without warranty for motorsport use only)

BMH also has a competition Midget with which it contests hillclimbs and sprints. This experience plus ongoing requests from owners of Lenham, Ashley and WSM-bodied Midgets and Sprites has led to the availability of replacement tubs, in addition to original specification individual panels and complete bodyshells.

A milestone in the UK’s illustrious sports car history is being sold by a Sussex classic cars specialist. The fully restored Triumph Spitfire was the first to come off the production line at its factory in Coventry. Lewes-based Sussex Sports Cars is marketing it online on behalf of its owner, a Swiss financial consultant. The firm’s Gerry Wadman said the owner, who restored the vehicle using Triumph parts, is asking £45,000 for the hand-built two-seater.
