The Triumph Club of the Carolinas is proud to host this year’s TRA national in Blowing Rock, NC at Chetola Lodge. Wonderful scenic drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Breakfast runs, a Funkhana as well as a concours and participants choice car show. The scenic NC High Couty in the Blue Ridge Mountains is the perfect setting for a TRA National Meet. There are a number of scheduled activities including a Blue Ridge Parkway Tour, Poker Run, two Breakfast Runs, a Funkhana, Welcome Mixer, Welcome Reception, Membership Meeting, Judges School, Auction, Art and Craft Competition, and 50/50 Raffle. But there is also plenty of free time for you to explore on your own or do some of the self-guided tours the host club has created.
The meet always includes multiple Jensen Interceptors and Jensen-Healeys in all their various iterations and will often include the less common Jensen GT plus occasionally some real Jensen rarities such as FFs, CV-8s, 541s and other surprises. Cars without Jensen Motors badges but a shared history at the West Bromwich factory such as the Volvo P1800 and Sunbeam Alpine/Tiger are welcomed and have attended previously. And what the heck; we have often had a Triumph Spitfire join us and we’ve even had a vintage Citroën SM in attendance, so one would be hard-pressed to say that we are not an inclusive group! Activities at the annual meet include non-competitive and fun driving events, local history tours and attractions, tech sessions, organized and impromptu meals and many other social activities which are targeted to appeal to car owners, admirers, and their supporters. While […]

The primary purposes of this road trip were (are? I am still on it) to see my friend Gene Gillenwater in Ohio, to attend the MG national meet in Louisville, KY, and to simply get out and drive and see some countryside. I have done all of those, and I am still on the road! The first leg of the road trip took me from Charleston, SC, over some of the worst roads I have ever seen, through North Carolina and a bit of Tennessee up into Virginia. Seriously, the roads in my own home state are the worst I have seen and are in dangerously bad shape. We should be ashamed of ourselves. The second leg of the trip was from Bristol, VA, through Abingdon, VA, because no self-respecting British car fan could pass up going to Abingdon, and […]

Our video this week is a great period piece celebrating the Chimney Rock Hillclimb which ran in North Carolina for approximately four decades. The Chimney Rock Hillclimb was the most legendary hillclimb in the South. Held in Chimney Rock, North Carolina, it was a rite of spring for both drivers and spectators. Beginning in 1956 when sports cars and sports car racing was still in its infancy, the climb challenged Triumphs, Jaguars, MG’s and their drivers to a high-speed rollercoaster ride that scared even the most fearless. With two miles of hairpins and switchbacks and trees for guard rails, it was an event to behold. Sadly the challenge to the mountain came to an end as a result of “changing times”. In 1995 “the Rock” fell asleep again. To quote the Chimney Rock website … Engines roared. Tires […]
