Special UK Mother’s Day Land Rover

Land Rover marked the production of the 100,000th Discovery Sport with a special surprise for one mum, Natalie Lipton, on Mother’s Day. (Mother’s Day in the UK was celebrated 6, March 2016.) The Lipton family had unwittingly purchased the milestone vehicle which was built at Jaguar Land Rover’s Halewood manufacturing plant, just 10 miles from their family home. To celebrate the milestone, which was reached just days before Mother’s Day in the UK, Land Rover went undercover with 7 year old Jacob and 5 year old Noah to find out just how this car could be made even more special for their mum. Accompanied by Paul Cleaver, Discovery Sport Vehicle Programme Director and Andy Wheel, Land Rover’s Chief Design Manager for Exteriors, the Lipton boys had an access-all-areas tour of the company’s Design and Engineering Centre at Gaydon. From experiencing driving […]

VotW – Gerry Coker on Austin Healey Style

Our video this week comes by way of the Suncoast British Car Club and featured Gerry Coker. Gerry was born “Gerald Charles Coker” June 24, 1922 in Northamptonshire, England.  He is known in the Healey world for his body design of the Healey Hundred introduced in 1952. He joined the Donald Healey Motor Company as Healey’s body engineer in 1950.  His first job was to look after the Nash Healeys as they came from Panelcraft, the Nash Healey body makers. Early on at the DHMC, Healey challenged Gerry to show him a sports car design, and in late 1950, he created the body design for what would become the Austin-Healey 100.  This timelessly beautiful sports car stole the show in October, 1952 when it debuted as the Healey Hundred at the London Motor Show at Earls Court. Gerry also styled the Austin-Healey […]

The modest 4-4 was a lightweight, affordable runabout that had been proven in local trials with great success across the UK. More recently known as the 4/4, this model has been a stalwart of the Morgan model range since its inception 80 years ago, and despite a short break during WWII, has been in continuous production ever since. And this year will be the 80th anniversary. 2016 marks 80 years of this automotive icon, a British success story and the longest running production car in the world. To celebrate, the Morgan Motor Company is proud to […]

MG GS SUV Spotted in Michigan

Automotive News is reporting that one of the crop of new non-US-Legal MG GS SUVs was recently spotted up in the northlands. Is MG edging closer to a return to North America? An MG GS crossover wearing Michigan manufacturer’s tags was spotted recently undergoing winter testing in Brighton, Mich., outside Detroit. The vehicle wore no camouflage, and the famous MG octagon badges were in plain view. Not long after a photo appeared on Facebook, the comments started rolling in, and they were stinging. Two examples: “homely” and “ugly.” Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp., the Chinese automaker that owns the brand, is preparing to launch the Ford Escape-size GS in the U.K. in early May. If there are plans for sales in North America, the company is not saying. A call to SAIC’s U.S. office was not returned. The MG is powered […]

Could An MG Partnership Bring The Opel GT Concept To Life

Supposing MG Sportscar via on Opel GM SAIC Partnership

An interesting proposal by the folks over at “GM Authority”. Note, while this is only supposition, it is quite an interesting idea.  Anyway, the General Motors-SAIC partnership has been a healthy one for both companies, and has helped GM flourish in the Chinese marketplace. Both companies have already expanded into early engineering for products outside of the Chinese market, namely powertrains. That’s the backstory for what Automotive News Europe proposes to bring the stunning Opel GT concept to life. SAIC also owns the storied, and decidedly British, MG brand. MG has struggled to regain traction in the UK, its only market at this time. As it stands, Opel has stated it has very little intent to produce the GT, stating the concept was merely a design study. In order for Opel to bring a proper, rear-wheel drive sports car to […]
