Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has announced that a record number of places are available for the company’s 2017 Apprenticeship Programme. Since the program was launched in 2006, numbers have progressively increased, with 2017 offering a record 20 candidates the opportunity to join the team at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, West Sussex.

The MINI JCW Team took the checkered flag earlier today at Daytona International Speedway, winning their first race ever in the Street Tuner class of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series. With LAP Motorsports Team Owner Luis Perocarpi on top of the pit box, drivers Mat Pombo and Derek Jones held off heavy pressure from a number of competitors for more than four hours in order to bring the #73 MINI JCW to victory lane. The 2017 season is only the second full season for the team in the series. We knew going into the race today that we were going to be fast and that we’d have a good chance to win this race. Come join the British Transportation Museum “Meet at the Market” for all British cars. The Meet runs from 9AM to 3PM on May 27, 2017. Car registration is $15 in before May 20th and $18 after May 21. Registration will be limited to the first 100 cars. We will have a silent auction again this year.  We will have a Kid’s Activities Tent. Come enjoy the 2nd Street Market that boosts local growers, bakers, culinary specialists, and artisans that fill this charming historic freight house. Cars and Motorcycles of England returns to the historic Oakbourne Mansion again in 2017, featuring an all-British marque judged motorcar and motorcycle concours, and a nationally sanctioned Jaguar Concours d’Elegance. The combined show fields represent one of the largest British Motoring shows on the East Coast with over 250 cars and motorcycles participating in each of the last four years. The show field opens at 8:30 AM and Judging begins at 10:00 AM. Prizes will be awarded beginning at 2:30PM. Delaware Valley Triumphs sponsors the All-British show. In 2015 our show field included the following marques: Aston Martin, Austin, Austin Healey, Bentley, Daimler, Innocenti, Jaguar, Lancester, Lotus, MG, Mini, Morgan, Peerless, Rolls Royce, Rover, Sunbeam, and, of course, Triumph. Preregistration must be received by April 8, 2017. All registered cars will be placed in a class for judging and award purposes. Cars must be parked with their assigned class to be eligible for awards. No trailers will be allowed on the show field. Display cars must be driven onto the show field under their own power. Classes will be determined by preregistered entries. This is a Popular Vote car show. Judging and balloting will be conducted by the registrants. The number of preregistered cars in each class will determine how many trophies will be awarded in each class. This is a rain or shine show. A portion of the proceeds will be given to Hospice. According to a recent article on CNN, American drivers are growing increasingly fond of British-made automobiles. They purchased nearly 50% more British cars in 2016 compare to the previous year, helping British automakers hike their annual production to a 17-year high. The U.K. Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said nearly 200,000 British-made cars were shipped to the U.S. last year. Meanwhile, just 40,000 U.S. cars were registered in the U.K. in 2016. The U.S. is the largest national market for U.K auto exports.

The 570S GT4 will make its North American competitive track debut this weekend at the iconic Daytona International Speedway, as the first customer-run examples of the latest GT model from McLaren take on the four hour Continental Tire BMW Endurance Challenge. Six examples of the 570S GT4 are set to contest the championship throughout the 2017 season, which commences at the famous 3.5-mile circuit in Florida. Customer teams VOLT Racing, C360R and Motorsports in Action will each field a pair of cars in the CTSC Grand Sport (GS) class. The category has attracted some of the world’s best GT4 outfits, and features 20 cars on the entry list for the season-opening round. The latest addition to the world-renowned stable of’ Special Edition’Jaguar E-Types that comprises the Eagle E-Type, Eagle Speedster, and the Eagle Low Drag GT. Jaguar Land Rover has once again been named the largest automotive manufacturer in Britain, accounting for more than 30% of all domestic car production last year. The news follows today’s announcement from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) that UK car manufacturers set a new record in 2016, producing 1,727,471 vehicles. Jaguar Land Rover’s three vehicle manufacturing plants in Liverpool and the West Midlands increased the company’s UK production output 8% over the previous year to 544,401. Jaguar Land Rover vehicles account for five of the top ten British best-sellers globally.

Our Video of the Week for the last week of January (wow, 2017 is roaring by!) is a sponsored documentary showing the manufacture of MG cars at Abingdon. This video comes by way of folks at British Pathé. One of the interesting thing to me about this video is that it is from 1931 – long before the MGB or even the MGA, entered the picture. The cars being made here are the ones that really laid the groundwork of the legend that would be MG.

Jaguar and the Guild of Motoring Writers have marked 50 years of the Sir William Lyons Award at a celebration dinner in central London. Guests included Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum, Sir William Lyons’s grandson Michael Quinn, Guild Vice President Ray Hutton and former winners of the award – plus the latest winner, Heléna Hicks. Heléna, aged 18 from Colchester, is a keen motorsport fan and aspiring journalism student. Her entry for the 2016 Sir William Lyons Award included an interview with Colombian GP3 driver Tatiana Calderón. She has just begun a placement at Autosport magazine as a junior reporter.

Aston Martin Racing is set to kick off the 2017 racing season early, with the marque set to contest the Rolex 24 at Daytona this weekend with its V12 Vantage GT3. The IQ Option liveried V12 Vantage GT3 will take on the IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship’s opening round with four of the team’s regular FIA World Endurance Championship drivers at the wheel.
