The first of three ‘new’ 16-cylinder P15 V16 BRM racing cars, built to commemorate the marque’s 70th anniversary, was shaken down at Blyton Park racetrack, Lincolnshire, last week in the presence of its new owner, John Owen, ahead of its on-track debut over the Goodwood Revival.

Britain’s original Formula 1 team, British Racing Motors (BRM), is celebrating its 70th anniversary with the construction of three ‘new’ 16-cylinder race cars – the iconic and awe-inspiring Type 15 Mk1 BRM V16.

Thousands of people gathered to look for sought-after bits and pieces amongst the many trade stands. The photo was taken at lunchtime when many folk made for the benches in the shade of the oaks. The highlight drawing many people was the startup of the 1950 BRM V16 with a newly restored engine. Last Thursday, Bournemouth-based author and former Anglican Priest, Bryan Apps, launched his new book at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. Laced with fascinating anecdotes, Raymond Mays’ Magnificent Obsession reveals a pivotal figure in motor sport history and describes the author’s enthusiasm for BRM, detailing his visit to Raymond Mays in Eastgate House, Bourne, in 1963. An intimate congregation of friends and motor racing enthusiasts gathered around the National Motor Museum’s Mk1 BRM for a talk by the author, followed by a presentation of the book to Beaulieu’s Chief Executive, Russell Bowman, and a signing session.
