MG 1936 N Type Special at Pinehurst

The MG N-type Magnette was produced by the MG Car company from October 1934 to 1936. The car was developed from the K-Type and L-Type but had a new chassis that broke away in design from the simple ladder type used on the earlier cars of the 1930s being wider at the rear than the front and with the body fitted to outriggers off the main frame.

This beautiful example of the six-cylinder Magnette was on display at the Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance on May 2nd in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

MG N Special at Pinehurst 2The beautiful example is owned by Roy Crowninshield of Asheville, North Carolina. Its 6-cylinder engine displaces 1271 cc and has overhead cam, Marshall supercharger, side exhaust, and pre-selector transmission.

MG N Special at Pinehurst 3Only about 700 N Type MGs were built between 1934 and 1936. The became well known in sports car circles for their lively performance.

This splendid 1936 MG PB is just one of the many gorgeous cars at the Pinehurst Concours this past weekend. Our trust photographer Leigh Gill attended and sent in these pictures. Quoting from the display, Reed Tarwater Greenfield, IN 1936 MG PB This 1936 MG PB, a matching numbers car, has undergone a frame-up restoration using original factory build records. I has a duo-tone paint-scheme of Cambridge and Oxford blue. Of of approximately 400 2-seater PBs produced, it features a 939 cc engine with 42 bhp and 12 inch brakes. Many original components were restored and reused, including front fenders, chrome radiator shell, and engine and transmission. With this being the height of show season, we decided that this week we should take a moment to look at the judging process in a concours d’elegance. Now, different shows do judging differently. There are, of course, the popular choice car shows, but even within the concours shows the judging can be varied.  Our video is The Judging Process at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Some shows that I have attended have cared more about the presentation and condition of a car than its originality. Other shows have stressed original equipment and options even if that meant that condition may suffer a bit. We just got in a brief event report from Scott Monfort of the British Car Club of Western North Carolina (BCCWNC). Their annual “Autumn in the Mountains” show was held on September 30th of this year in Hendersonville, North Carolina. This is a wonderful Fall event with proceeds going to charity. Scott said: We had 90 cars show for the event.  This was less than last year but we still increased our collections by 10% over last year.  I was hoping to top last years entries of 100 cars but I am grateful for the increase in spectators. It was a beautiful day with clear skies and moderate temperature. The $4,400 received during the one-day event will be donated to the local Meals on Wheels charity.     The Aston Martin Feltham Club, http://www.AMFClub.com, has become quite well known in the Aston Martin field. This because all members own at least one Feltham built Aston. It is a valuable source of information and manufactures parts not normally available from the market. The membership is very active with information on restoration and maintenance. A must for owners of Feltham built Aston especially as it has no membership dues.
