MG Sales Set All-Time Record in September as Streak Hits Six Months

MG Motor UK registered 18,026 vehicles in September, the highest-volume sales month in the brand’s history and the first time MG has passed 18,000 registrations in a single month. The result beats the previous all-time record, set in March 2025, by 2,150 vehicles and lifted MG to fourth place in the UK sales rankings for the month.

September registrations rose by 3,449 vehicles, or 23.7 percent, compared with the same month in 2025. MG took a 5.14 percent market share, with growth almost twice that of the overall new-car market, which rose 12 percent to 350,536 registrations.

The performance completed MG’s largest-ever quarter, with 30,189 registrations across July, August and September. It also marked a sixth consecutive month in which MG has set a new sales record for the corresponding calendar month, a run that began in April.

MG has now sold 78,930 vehicles in the UK during 2026, an increase of 20.7 percent compared with the same period last year. The brand holds a 4.54 percent year-to-date market share and ranks sixth overall. Private customer registrations are up 33 percent, well ahead of the 12.3 percent growth recorded across the wider retail market, while True Fleet sales grew 22 percent in September on the strength of new models including the MGS9 PHEV and the Hybrid+ range.

Electrified vehicles continue to drive the growth. Some 91.6 percent of September sales featured an electrified powertrain, and MG’s battery-electric sales are up 65.2 percent year to date, more than double the industry-wide increase of 30.3 percent.

“September was a landmark month for MG in the UK, reflecting the breadth of our range and the confidence customers place in MG across Hybrid+, Plug-in Hybrid and fully electric powertrains,” said David Allison, Director of Product and Planning at MG Motor UK. “Our growth is also being supported by continued investment in the ownership experience and key updates to our most popular models. This momentum underscores the strength of our strategy, where we will continue to focus on customer value and long-term growth plans in both the private and corporate sectors.”

The sales milestone follows a month of product and customer-support developments. MG introduced upgraded versions of the MG3, MG ZS and MG HS, promising smoother and quieter Hybrid+ driving along with added comfort and cabin refinements. The company also claimed its first top-ten position in the 2026 What Car? Reliability Survey, placing ninth with a score of 92.0 percent and being named the survey’s most-improved brand. The MGS5 EV finished first in the small family electric SUV class, while the MG5 EV placed third among electric cars.

MG also pointed to aftersales investment behind the result, including a new parts distribution operation offering overnight deliveries and a 96 percent first-time parts fulfilment rate so far in 2026, plus an expanded Cecil Kimber College MG Academy at Longbridge, which has doubled its footprint.
