US Demand for Electrified Range Rover Classics Drives Lunaz Expansion at Silverstone

Lunaz, the Silverstone design house that rebuilds British classics for the modern world, is expanding its manufacturing footprint and workforce on the strength of American demand, led by its electrified and V8-powered Range Rover Classic restomods. The company said in September that US production allocations have been filled across its newly released series of Range Rover Classics and Aston Martins, prompting an additional production shift at its 65,000 sq ft factory beside the Silverstone circuit, with the workforce set to double over the next 24 months.

“We built Lunaz to enthuse a new generation of collectors about the most celebrated and significant British cars,” said David Lorenz, Founder and CEO of Lunaz. “The response we have seen in the United States, across our portfolio and particularly for the Range Rover Classic, shows the strength of their appeal and their place in automotive culture. ” The response, he said, allows Lunaz to increase its commitment to British manufacturing and nurture the next generation of engineering, design and craft talent in the heart of the country’s luxury and specialist manufacturing sector.

The Range Rover Classic by Lunaz starts with an original car stripped to bare metal, comprehensively restored and re-engineered, then shaped around its owner. The original 3.5-litre V8 gives way to either Lunaz’s proprietary fully electric powertrain or an LS3 V8, both producing more than 350bhp, with suspension, brakes and steering re-engineered to match. Clients can choose two-door, standard four-door, long-wheelbase or bespoke convertible editions, and the options list runs from heated and massaging seats, 360-degree cameras and wireless charging to Starlink connectivity, fridges and a 3D-printed dash and centre console finished in the owner’s choice of material. Each commission is one-of-one: clients are paired with a Lunaz designer throughout the build, and one recent car was specified in tandem with its owner’s yacht so the two can travel the world together.

Just 25 Range Rovers will be built in 2027, the company says, and American clients have already taken up their allocations across the current series.

The expansion also supports Lunaz’s growing line of combustion-powered classics, among them the Aston Martin DB series created to mark the model’s 60th anniversary and Lunaz’s 50th client commission. Powered by a hand-built 350bhp 5.0-litre engine, it is the first Lunaz combustion project to draw on the company’s Formula One-derived engineering expertise, with a limited number of DB5 and DB6 commissions in production.

New roles created by the expansion will span design, coachbuilding, craft, engine development and electrification, keeping the complete process in Britain from restoration and body engineering to trim, paint and final assembly. For a company founded in 2018, tapping the deepest pocket of demand in the collector-car world to double down on British craft is not a bad place to be.
