2017 America’s British Reliability Run – Pennsylvania Chapter

Thanks to Melody Laurel we have a special event report on the 2017 America British Reliability Run, Pennsylvania Chapter. This event was held at the end of September. Melody is currently assistant director of the Delaware Valley Triumphs and is also on the board of directors for the Pennsylvania chapter of America’s Reliability Run. This year, the event will be held the first weekend of October. Another year’s America’s British Reliability Run has come to a close. $27,000.00 has been raised for New Jersey’s Children’s Specialty Hospitals, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Program and the Traumatic Head Injury Programs. These programs receive no government funding and all of the proceeds will go directly to buying much-needed beds and other items, not funding the front office. The America’s British Reliability Run has been in existence for over 12 years. It is not a race. It is […]

Most Expensive Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato to be Auction by Bonhams

A 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato described as ‘the most important in history’ is set to go under the hammer at Bonhams at Goodwood. Raced by Formula 1 legend Jim Clark, it could become the most expensive British car to ever sell at auction in Europe – with an estimated price of over £10m pushing it far beyond the previous record holder, a ‘Blower’ Bentley which made £5.4m in June 2012. James Knight, of auction house Bonhams motoring department explains the car’s appeal: It sort of epitomises everything that’s so great about Britain – bespoke, handmade, beautiful quality – and then when you clothe the car in this Italian Zagato style, you get the best of both worlds. It’s unofficially known as ‘2 VEV’ in a nod to its registration and boasts a 3.7-litre straight-six engine developing around 314bhp. That […]

Range Rover Sport PHEV Climbs to Heaven’s Gate

A dizzying 99 turns and 999 daunting steps didn’t stop the new Range Rover Sport PHEV from completing a world-first at one of China’s most famous landmarks. The petrol-electric performance SUV has become the first vehicle to climb the stairs to the natural rock arch of Heaven’s Gate. The challenge began at the bottom of the legendary 11.3km Tianmen Mountain Road (known as the Dragon Road). The showroom standard Range Rover Sport P400e took on the demanding course, with Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Ho-Pin Tung behind the wheel and the Terrain Response 2 system in Dynamic mode.

VotW – Pensioner Builds Steam Powered Land Rover

Our video this week is a five-decade-old series Land Rover that has been converted to run on steam. Yes. You read that correctly. Retiree Frank Rothwell from Oldham in England says he spent about £24,000 building the vehicle and about 400 hours of his time. He plans to drive Mildred to work this summer, and take it to shows. Best of all, he says, “It keeps me out of the pub.” This is a five-decade-old series Land Rover that has been converted to run on steam. That’s right, it swaps the regular engine for a steam-puffing, chimney-clad, coal-fired burner. At a cost of £24,000, the deep irony of the build isn’t lost on us. The car that became the Defender, itself a vehicle that EU law has deemed archaic and no longer fit to meet emissions rules, has been adapted […]

Jaguar Land Rover Reports Third Quarter Results

Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc today reported pre-tax profits of £192 million for the three months to 31 December 2017, as major investment in new models and challenging trading conditions in key markets offset a solid rise in unit sales. In the third quarter, retail sales grew 3.5% to 154,447 units, driven primarily by a 14.6% increase in unit sales in China and an 18.2% rise in overseas markets. Increased sales in such markets reflected underlying demand for the new Range Rover Velar, the Land Rover Discovery, the recently-launched Jaguar E-PACE compact SUV and, in China, the long-wheelbase Jaguar XF. This improvement was offset by flatter demand in the USA, UK and Europe, and the impact of model year change-overs for the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
