The races were held back in the early 1950s through about 1962 or so with perhaps a year or two omitted. The races were originally conducted on the public roads on the small island in Lake Erie just north of the north coast of Ohio. The races were re-invented about 10 years ago. But rather than racing on the public roads they now race on a temporary race course set up on the airport runways and taxiways. Racing classes are designed to bring in mostly 3.0 liter and smaller engine race cars. And they restrict vehicles to those built before 1970 (generally). I have spectated and more recently now serve as a safety team representative (tow disabled race cars off the track). The Lake Erie British Car Club will be hosting their 23rd annual “British Return to Fort Meigs” British car and bike show at the Fort Meigs Historical Site located at 29100 West River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio, 43551. The show runs from 10 am to 3 pm with registration ending at 12 noon. The show will feature a 50/50 raffle, door prizes, silent auction, T-shirts for pre-registered (day of show t-shirts for sale are limited), goody bags, discounted visit to the Fort Meigs site, food vendors, voting by popular vote, and dash plaques for the first 125 registered. 37th Annual Dayton British Car Day. Honoring the 60th anniversary of the MGB & Triumph Spitfire Saturday, August 6, 2022, from 9 am to 4 pm Eastwood MetroPark 1385 Harshman Rd. Dayton, Ohio Presented by MG Car Club Southwestern Ohio Centre & the Miami Valley Triumphs Participant’s choice car show featuring 28 classes, vendors & swap meet, full-service concession stand, dash plaques to first 200 entrants, and as always, spectators are admitted for free. Following the cancelation of the 2020 event due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, a large percentage of entrants carried over their registration to 2021. Since then excitement has continued to mount for this fun-filled and relaxed event. Beginning with a small “reunion” in 2009, today’s racing- and non-racing entrants at Put-in-Bay enjoy several days of sports-car enjoyment in a relaxed and nostalgic setting where small-bore sports cars raced through the streets of this island enclave from ‘52 to ‘59 and once more in 1963. For this year’s event (September 21-24 with racing at the Put-in-Bay airport on September 22 and 23) race organizers have built on the enthusiasm for 2019’s “TinTop” celebration to invite drivers of vintage Volvos, VWs, and Saabs to come share the fun as official featured marques. The cars and motorcycles of the Roarin’ Twenties will be featured at the 2021 Dayton Concours. The Dayton Concours d’Elegance at Carillon Park presented by AAA is the Midwest’s premier classic & antique automobile and motorcycle show. The invitational event brings some of the finest historical cars and motorcycles together inside the grounds of the 65-acre historical park. The vehicles are either restored to original or preserved in original condition. Cars from the early 1900’s are displayed alongside the classics of the ‘50’s and ‘60’s, as well as a variety of two-wheeled machines. Entries are judged and compete in a number of classes and also for special awards. This year the BCD is September 12th, 2021 at Harbin Park 1300 Hunter Rd Fairfield, OH  45014.  The featured model is Jaguar E-type. Each year the BCD averages 170 British cars and 400 attendees.  The show raises money for the Aubrey Rose Foundation that benefits families of sick children.  There are 35 classes and 70+ awards.  Voting is by popular vote of the entrants. British Car Day XXXVI of Central Ohio in Columbus is being held again at Quaker Steak Polaris, with over 250 cars and motorcycles expected. 32 classes with participant judging.
