On the 70th anniversary of the very first Aston Martin DB-badged models, the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace will be hosting a display of some of the finest Aston Martins ever produced. From 31 August – 2 September, over 100 icons from the legendary British marque will be on display, including four very special examples in the Main Concours. Chief among them is a 1967 Aston Martin DBSC by Touring – the only road-going version in existence. Only two cars were built by Touring as a potential replacement for the Aston Martin DB6, and this left-hand-drive 4-litre, straight-six powered rarity comes finished in Dubonnet Rosso paint, with a tan pigskin interior. Land Rover joined The Prince’s Countryside Parade, hosted at the Royal Cornwall Show on Thursday 7th June, to celebrate HRH The Prince of Wales’ passionate support for countryside issues throughout his lifetime. The Countryside Parade was a special celebration of HRH The Prince of Wales’ contribution to causes dedicated to the environment, sustainable agriculture and help for rural communities. In total, around 60 patronages came together in a unique and colorful parade highlighting their work and achievements to date.

McLaren Automotive, the creator of luxury, high-performance sports cars and supercars, has for the first time ever donated a bespoke McLaren 570S Spider to the Elton John AIDS Foundation which was auctioned at the Argento Ball in association with BVLGARI & Bob and Tamar Manoukian on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. Every pound of the $948,000 it raised will go to the Foundation to help with its goal of creating an AIDS-free future for everybody.  The ball took place at Elton John’s home, Woodside in Berkshire UK, with Graham Norton as master of ceremonies and a special performance by Ed Sheeran.

Most folks who own a television set are familiar with Dennis Gage and his show My Cassic Car. Well, our video this week is from a show he shot at the McPherson College C.A.R.S. Club show. It just so happens that two of the cars he featured in this episode are a 1967 MG 1100 and a 1964 Indy car racer featuring MG 1100 liquid suspension. The cars belong to Richard Morrison who has painstakingly restored them both. The footage of these cars starts at 5:40. For the 1964 Indianapolis 500 Kjell Qvale, who imported and distributed several British Marques, asked the head of his racing department, Joe Huffaker, to build 3 cars incorporating the hydrolastic suspension from the MG 1100 Sports Sedan. Britain can become a world leader in lightweight materials that could help create more efficient future vehicles, Mike Flewitt, the CEO of luxury British sportscar and supercar maker McLaren Automotive has said today. Delivering his keynote speech to automotive leaders and policymakers at the SMMT industry summit in Central London, Mr Flewitt called for a future “weight race” to replace the more traditional “power race”.

This past weekend saw two new winners in the inaugural Pure McLaren GT Series, making a total of four winners in six races, as competitors racing track-only Sports Series 570S GTs took to the iconic Algarve International Circuit in Portugal. The weekend’s two races had a major effect on the championship standings, after Sultan Ojjeh and Ian Loggie both scored wins. In the first race of the weekend on Saturday, it was the #75 570S GT4 of Ojjeh who took the spoils, after a dominant run to victory.

The Bentley Bentayga demonstrated its performance credentials by claiming the outright record for a production SUV at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Driven by two-time champion Rhys Millen (NZ), the Bentayga completed the 12.42-mile course in just 10:49.9 – taking nearly two minutes off the previous record by averaging 66.5 mph. Climbing almost 5,000 ft through 156 corners, the Bentayga deployed its unique combination of a 600 bhp, 900 Nm W12 engine, adaptive air suspension, active electric 48V anti-roll control and carbon ceramic brakes to set a stunning new benchmark.

The Connecticut Triumph Register in conjunction with the CT MG club is proud to present the first Connecticut British Reliability Run. The event is scheduled for September 14-16, 2018. The goal is to field 24 British cars/teams and raise funds to benefit The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp was founded by Paul Newman. This organization is dedicated to providing “a different kind of healing” to seriously ill children and their families throughout the northeast, free of charge. The event will begin at GMT Racing in Newtown, CT, run through the Adirondacks over the weekend and will end at Lime Rock Park in Lime Rock, CT with a cookout. It will be a great fall drive through the beautiful countryside in the company of fellow British car friends.

Female racing driver Aseel Al Hamad celebrated the end of the ban on women drivers with a lap of honor in a Jaguar F-TYPE. Aseel, the first female board member of the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation, had never driven on a track in her home country before. Aseel joined Jaguar in a call for June 24th to be known as World Driving Day – a day when finally, the whole world can enjoy the thrill of being behind the wheel of a car. On World Driving Day Jaguar invites people to share a memory of their best driving moment (image or anecdote) using the hashtag #worlddrivingday.

Aston Martin Lagonda today announces two important new additions to its UK site operations. The Aston Martin Test and Development Centre at Silverstone will become a new hub for prototype vehicle testing, focused on chassis dynamics and high-speed handling. Concurrently announced is the creation of a central London office providing conveniently located space for meetings and events. Panasonic Jaguar Racing geared up for final rounds of the 17/18 ABB FIA Formula E Championship season taking place in Brooklyn, New York this July, by making a visit to the Big Apple this week. Today, 21 of Jaguar Land Rover’s inspirational female employees have been recognized as part of Autocar’s ‘Great British Women in the Car Industry’ awards. Women from across the business made up more than one-fifth of the Top 100 list, more than any other British automotive organization. Elizabeth Hill from Product Engineering Quality was the overall winner of the Vehicle Development category following her role leading the successful launch of the 2018 model year Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, including the new plug-in hybrid versions.

Tex has a long and distinguished history as the supplier of wiper arms, wiper blades and rearview mirrors to the British motor industry, but sales of the latter have declined steeply in the last 12 months, owing to an influx of cheap foreign copies. Since 2008, Tex Automotive has been a wholly owned subsidiary of British Motor Heritage (BMH), whose Managing Director John Yea has this warning for the classic car fraternity: Examination of these fake products reveals they are of less robust quality and the glass is not ‘E’ marked, meaning the optical properties will not meet the legislative standard that existed when such items were originally manufactured. Jaguar Vector Racing have broken the outright world and national electric speed records in a battery-powered boat. The unique Jaguar Vector V20E recorded an average speed of 88.61mph across the two legs of the famous 1km course on Coniston Water, England. The electric boat was designed and constructed by Jaguar Vector in partnership with Jaguar Racing’s technical partner Williams Advanced Engineering. Jaguar Vector co-founder and technical director Peter Dredge piloted the V20E.
