MG Marvel R Electric for the 2021 European Market

MG Europe has unveiled the battery-powered Marvel R SUV for Europe. There will be multiple modifications of it, and the top specification model will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in under five seconds.

The Marvel is already known this in other SAIC markets by its Chinese domestic market name, Roewe Marvel. It emerged three years ago and received a facelift in 2020. The MG-badged variant for Europe had been scheduled for a debut this spring, but due to market conditions and manufacturing limitations, the plans have changed.

In its Comfort and Luxury trims, the car packs two rear-mounted electric motors joining efforts for 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW) and 410 Nm (302 lb-ft) of torque total. The standard sprint lasts 7.9 seconds, and the top speed is capped at 200 km/h (124 mph).

The top-spec model, called Performance, adds a third motor to the front axle for 288 PS (284 hp / 212 kW) and 665 Nm (490 lb-ft) of torque. Going from zero to 100 km/h takes 4.9 seconds, but the top speed stays unchanged.

All modifications use the same 70-kWh traction battery array. The dual-motor version has 402 kilometers (250 miles) of range, while the tri-motor one understandable lags behind with 370 km (230 miles). All trims support external device charging.
