Put-In-Bay Historic Sports Car Races – Ohio
The races were held back in the early 1950s through about 1962 or so with perhaps a year or two omitted. The races were originally conducted on the public roads on the small island in Lake Erie just north of the north coast of Ohio. The races were re-invented about 10 years ago. But rather than racing on the public roads they now race on a temporary race course set up on the airport runways and taxiways. Racing classes are designed to bring in mostly 3.0 liter and smaller engine race cars. And they restrict vehicles to those built before 1970 (generally). I have spectated and more recently now serve as a safety team representative (tow disabled race cars off the track).
