Bentley and the Royal College of Art (RCA) are today announcing details of an exciting collaboration aimed at exploring the future of British luxury. Bentley’s Design Director Stefan Sielaff – himself an alumnus of the RCA’s renowned Intelligent Mobility programme – is challenging second-year post-graduate students to develop concepts around ‘the meaning of future British luxury in the year 2050. Students at the London university are being asked to use the project as an opportunity to interrogate the future of areas such as craftsmanship, materials, technology and, of course, luxury.

Bentley Motors will compete in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb for the first time on 24th June 2018 with the award-winning Bentayga. The 600 bhp, W12-powered Bentayga will tackle the famous 12.42-mile Colorado Springs hill climb with record-breaking ambitions, aiming to navigate the 156 corners of ascending asphalt quicker than any SUV before.

More than 500 British cars gather on the grounds of Lilypons Water Gardens for the 41st Annual Original British Car Day. Dash plaque and name in the program for all pre-registered cars. In 1961, a young man takes a tour of the Jaguar factory in Coventry. He sees how the cars are built and gets a ride in a brand new XK-E. The video also features the Jaguar Mk 2 which was in its third year of production at this point, having been introduced in 1959.

A key milestone was marked today at the Yorkshire manufacturing center that from 2019 will start producing carbon fiber tubs for McLaren Automotive, the British creator of luxury sports cars and supercars. As darkness descended at the £50million McLaren Composites Technology Centre (MCTC) nearing completion in the Sheffield region, McLaren Automotive Chief Executive Mike Flewitt was on-hand to illuminate the famous marque’s sign. A spectacular indoor light show then greeted guests, culminating in the recently unveiled McLaren Senna road car performing a series of expertly choreographed ‘doughnuts’ to leave a trail of fresh Pirelli tire rubber on the new center’s floor to ‘christen’ it – McLaren style.

Land Rover today announces a limited-edition high-performance version of the iconic Defender, with up to 150 V8-powered examples re-engineered to celebrate the Land Rover marque’s 70thanniversary in 2018. The Defender Works V8 pays homage to the early high-powered engines in both the Series III Stage 1 V8 from 1979 and subsequent Defenders including the 50th Anniversary Edition, which are highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors today. Defender Works V8 is the most powerful and fastest version that Land Rover has ever created. The 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol V8 powertrain produces 405PS and 515 Nm of torque (the standard Defender delivered 122PS and 360 Nm). The Defender Works V8 will accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.6sec*, while top speed is increased to 106mph.

British car company Jaguar Land Rover is to open a software engineering center in Shannon, Ireland, with the creation of 150 jobs. The facility is to be focused on technology designed to power electric and self-driving cars being designed by the luxury auto-manufacturer. Company bosses say that the company chose Shannon based on its reputation as an engineering hub.

Jaguar Racing has announced its first Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY partner, with Michelin joining as official tire supplier ahead of the series debut season later in the year. During an on-stage appearance at Autosport International, Jaguar Racing Team Director James Barclay revealed that leading motorsport tire supplier Michelin will provide tires for all 20 Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY racecars at each round of the world’s first international championship for production-based electric cars.

Since 1997 the CMGC swap meet has been held at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton, Illinois. Both the content and the gate admission has been increasing yearly (with the exception of one very bad snow storm in 2007). After many years of being held in late February, the Swap Meet will henceforth be held on the third Sunday in March. This switch should increase the odds of good weather and will also result in improved parking availability most years. There is no change or alteration to the actual site or layout, so vendors and customers alike will find a familiar situation when they arrive. Vendor registration will be conducted as usual

Mini Meet West is an annual gathering of fans of the classic Mini manufactured from 1959 to 2000 (including variants such as Mini-based Wolseley, Rileys, Innocenti, ADO16 and other variants that are derived from the classic Mini) and the modern BMW MINI that is currently in production. A group of West Coast clubs held the first U.S. Mini Meet in Reno, Nevada back in 1973. There were 43 paid registrations at the first meet. Eventually, the Meet became known as the 1st Mini Meet West after the startup of the Mini Meet East events in 1975.

Mini Meet East is going back to New York in 2018.  This year’s location will be in New Paltz, NY amidst the Shawangunk Mountains. It will be filled with a variety of organized drives throughout the Shawangunk & Catskills Mountains. One of the highlights of Grand Prix Race Weekend in Schenley Park is British Car Day, sponsored by the Western Pennsylvania Triumph Association (WPTA).
