VotW – MGB Review! – Are All MG’s Unreliable?

I hear a lot how young people aren’t into our older British cars, but I think that sometimes that is just because they haven’t been given the chance. To show how some younger folk view our classic sports cars, our video this week is from a guy who goes by the YouTube handle of ThatDudeInBlue. The video, a review of a nice MGB, is quite honest and although he approaches the car from a distinctively modern viewpoint, it is clear that he enjoys the ride.

The reviewer is very honest in talking about both the successes and the shortcomings of the MGB. He mentions how the cars have a reputation for unreliability, though it seems he doesn’t take much stock in that. In contrast to being a bit small and perhaps underpowered, he talks about how the MGB and other cars like it have a personality and a fun factor that more modern cars just can’t match.

I honestly believe that we need to expose younger people to our cars, let them drive them, and help them understand why we love them so much. We also need to provide the folks some of the basic training in maintenance and upkeep that no one teaches anymore. If we want our hobby and our cars to survive, we need to take the time to ensure that survival.

Give the video a watch, I think you will find this guy’s enthusiasm to be infectious.

  1. I own a 1975 MGB. I have had it for 33 years & it went 103,000 miles before I opted for an engine rebuild. It has overdrive so 70 MPH is not a problem but of course I do not take it on the freeway. It has been virtually trouble free. Most problems I have had have been from the after market replacement parts. A lot of it is junk. Most of us own these cars try to rebuilt the original stuff if possible. Last year my wife & I drove to Louisville for the NAMGBR event 2000 miles round trip on the newly rebuilt engine. No problems it ran like a top got 30 MPG. as you can tell I love my MGB.
