Rare 1957 MGA Twin Cam Roadster Prototype To Auction

Among a catalogue of many significant cars to be offered by H&H Classics at its forthcoming 11 July Chateau Impney Hill Climb sale is not only a historic car in the legend that is the MG Car Company, it’s also a star of the silver screen.

1957 MGA Twin Cam

The 1957 MGA Twin Cam Roadster Prototype, registration ‘ORX 885’, features in a 1955/1956 promotional film for the British Motor Corporation, The Sports Car Of The Year, produced by Associated British Pathé Ltd. MG’s top-of-the-range sports car can be seen at the MIRA test track lapping at its impressive top speed of 120mph. Not only that, in later frames it also demonstrates the powerful stopping power of disc brakes – quite an innovation for MG and at that time generally only fitted to racing cars such as Jaguar’s D-type.

Since service as a factory prototype, ‘ORX 885’ had a non-stop racing career of over 50 years and is a well-known car at owners’ club meetings. Currently prepared for historic racing, it carries an estimate of £45,000 – 55,000. Just the thing for an event such as the competitive hill climb that will be held at the impressive Droitwich venue on the weekend of the sale.

For those looking for even more performance, H&H will also offer two super-quick Chevron prototypes, a 1968 B8 coupé for £180,000 – 220,000 and a 1973 B23/M36, the classic ‘wedge’ open sports car from the Bolton firm, estimated at £140,000 – 160,000.

Collectors requiring more sybaritic transport fit for a chateau will appreciate the two classic Citroëns. The 1973 Citroën D Super 5 (£60,000 – 70,000) is a multiple-concours-winner and comes in a fabulous combination ofBlanc Meije (white) bodywork with eye-catching red/orange upholstery. The all-green 1973 Citroën DS23 EFI is to highly desirable Pallas specification and estimated at an affordable £23,000 – 28,000. Vive la France!

H&H Classics’ Chateau Impney Hill Climb sale will be held on 11 July 2015 at Chateau Impney, Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire WR9 0BN.
