Ian Callum Discusses Designing the Jaguar E-PACE

In this short video, Ian Callum, Design Director of Jaguar UK, discusses the birth of the design elements in the new E-PACE. From the cub-like large paws and eyes to the camera inspired tactile dials, the car is designed for its enjoyable aesthetic appeal. There are even racing chicane inspired flourishes captured in the dash and taillights.

The Jaguar E-PACE is a compact sport utility vehicle (compact SUV) that was officially revealed on 13 July 2017. In a break from tradition, the car is to be built in Graz, Austria, by Magna Steyr and by Chery Jaguar Land Rover, JLR’s joint venture with partner Chery in Changshu, China. The E-Pace will be the first of Jaguar’s cars to be exclusively manufactured outside of its home market.

The E-Pace is being offered with two engines on offer in the US. The standard E-Pace comes with a 2.0-liter I4 good for 246 horsepower. The E-Pace R-Dynamic, which displays a set of sportier design cues inside and out — including gloss black trim, sport seats and a more aggressive front bumpers — also packs a 2.0-liter I4, but it puts out 296 horsepower, which is a modest bump.

When it goes on sale in early 2018, the base E-Pace will cost $38,600. A move up to the fancier S or SE trims with cost a buyer $41,500 or $44,300, respectively. Further up the fitment spectrum, buys can ope for for the R-Dynamic variant, this one starts at $47,250 for the S trim, $50,050 for the SE trim and $53,100 for the highest level HSE trim.
