World Records Broken at Silverstone Auctions

In front of a crowd of hundreds of classic car fans, international bidders online and on the phones, Silverstone Auctions broke several world records and achieved its best ever result at the event, in its two-day sale at the Classic Motor Show this weekend. Taking place at the NEC in Birmingham, 80 percent of the vehicles on offer were successfully sold, for a total sales value of £5.8million.

Record Prices for Land Rovers at Silverstone Auctions

Just one week after a number of new record prices were achieved, Silverstone Auctions secured more high prices in its sale at the Practical Classics Restoration and Classic Car Show on Sunday. 75 per cent of the cars on offer were successfully hammered away at the NEC, Birmingham in front of hundreds of classic car fans at the show for a total sales figure of £1.5million. In the home city of Land Rover, record prices were secured for two very special Series One examples. One of the earliest Land Rovers produced, a 1948 Series One Chassis #149, sold for £47,250, more than £20,000 over its lower estimate, and the highest price for a Series One in recent years. 94 Classics at Upcoming Silverstone Auctions

94 amazing classic cars spanning 83 years, as well as a host of automobilia and luxury lifestyle items, will be offered this weekend at Silverstone Auctions’ sale at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show. One of the biggest classic car auctions in the calendar, the two-day sale takes place on the 14th and 15th of November at the NEC, Birmingham. The highlight of the sale has to be a fabulous ‘on the button’ low mileage 1991 Jaguar XJ220, estimated at between £300,000 and £350,000. Chassis no. 220693 was hand built by TWR Jaguar in Oxford in 1991 before being exported to Brunei by special order of the Royal Family. The car remained as part of the world renowned, royal car collection until September 2002 when it returned to the UK.

Rare Last E-Type to be Sold at Silverstone Auction

Silverstone Auctions is to auction a Series II Jaguar E-Type Fixed Head Coupé that is believed to be the last of its type ever sold as new. In excellent condition and never having undergone a major restoration, the Jaguar Light Blue E-Type will go under the hammer at the Salon Privé Sale at Blenheim Palace on 2nd September. The UK specification right-hand drive E-Type was built in August 1970 and was eventually delivered to dealer Charles of Pirbright, where it remained in the showroom for five months until it was sold to its first owner on 7th August 1971, likely making it the last Series II Fixed Head Coupé to find a home.

Rare Homologation Mini Cooper S to be Auctioned

One of the rarest of all flavors of the Mini Cooper S, a 970 S built in 1964 comes up for auction at the Silverstone Classic on 29th – 30th July. A fine example of the homologation special created to qualify the Cooper S for the under 1000cc category in racing and rallying, the car presented by Silverstone Auctions is one of less than a thousand ever built. With engine and chassis numbers matching logbook records and an extensive history file including homologation papers, heritage certificate, 2004 FIA Historic Technical Passport and MoT certificates, the iconic Cooper 970 S is estimated to sell for between £43,000 and £50,000.

A 1960 Bentley S2, owned by legendary rhythm guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter for The Kinks, Sir Ray Davies, will go under the hammer at Silverstone Auctions’ May Sale, taking place at Silverstone circuit on 13th May. The car was bought by Sir Ray Davies in 1966 after the Kinks’ single Lola went to Number 1 in the charts around the world. He was persuaded by his family to invest in a big car, unusual for him as he didn’t actually drive at the time, in fact, he didn’t start driving until he was 44 years old.

William Lyons’ Own Jaguar Up For Auction

An incredibly special 1961 Jaguar Mk X owned by Sir William Lyons, founder of Jaguar, will be sold at auction later this year at Silverstone Auctions’ Salon Privé Sale, held at Blenheim Palace on 2nd and 3rd September. Manufactured in December 1961 at the Coventry factory, the car was delivered to Sir William in January 1962 and registered to his Wappenbury Hall address in Warwickshire. Not just any ordinary Jaguar, this Mk X was one of the very first “Zenith” cars produced and made specifically for Lyons to use as his daily driver and finished to his very personal and exact specification. Synonymous with his reputation, Lyons clearly demanded only the very best and the top of the range car houses a 3.8 litre, 6-cylinder engine, which could have whisked him along Warwickshire’s roads at speeds of up to 120 […]
